Happy New Year lovelies! Hope you all have a wonderful time this evening and can’t wait to see what 2011 brings to you and I!

S xx

Well I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, and if your not a member one of the Christmas celebrating faiths, I can only apologise for the shop closures and rubbish television over the last week.

I celebrated my 31st birthday by treating myself to not one, but TWO gorgeous new vintage handbags!

The first is a divine 1950s Tapestry bag, which is in pristine condition.

Don’t you just LOVE it?

The second may seem a little more uninteresting, but actually is the more exciting handbag, from a vintage point of view, than the first, mostly because it is from the Famous New York Boutique, Lesco Lona and probably dates to the early 1960s.

On top of this it has Bakelite handles and fixing. And that makes me smile.

Now then. New bags need new outfits. Right ladies? ;)

All this snow is making my obsession with vintage furs even more intense.

Now, I know there is a lot of debate as to whether or not VINTAGE fur is acceptable, and I certainly wouldn’t wear new fur, except perhaps the eco farmed stuff, but surely putting vintage fur (at least no younger than 20 years) to landfill is more ecologically un-ethical than wearing and buying it.

As a meat eating, leather wearing citizen, I find no issue with vintage, eco and responsibly farmed fur, but the debate continues and in my mind we all have the individual right to wear and own what we like as the responsibility lies with the individual to act in all cases as well as this to try as much as possible to encourage fair and humane farming practices by fur farmers.

And I will NOT be quiet if I am attacked in the street, even at vintage events by the left wing anti fur crowd. I AM A PERSON WITH MY OWN MIND AND HAVE THE RIGHT TO MAKE UP MY OWN MIND ABOUT FUR!

So, getting of my soap box, here are some pretty pictures of some truly FABULOUS fur wearing beauties!

The stunning Catherine Deneuve in YSL and Coco Chanel in Chanel (obviously)

Carole Lombard.

Omar Sherif and his lovey female co-stars in Dr Zhivago, the ultimate in fur wearing films!

David Bowie

Elizabeth Taylor wearing fur and the HUGE Taylor Burton Diamond! That woman knows about jewellery.

Elizabeth Taylor has very expensive taste in fur and jewellery and she looks amazing for it.

Hedy Lamarr

Madame Dietrich.

Rita Hayworth, holding her own against Taylor in the Fur and Jewellery stakes.

So I leave you on this cold, winter day to make your own mind up about vintage fur. All I ask is that you think before you attack someone for how they choose to dress.

Love to all, Sadie xx

Hello all!

Apologies again for the lengthy delay in posting, but I have been so completely snowed under I have been too busy to even have a cup of tea most days!

I was kindly invited to style the Beauty Call Christmas party on Friday the 10th at their fabulous Shoreditch studios! The theme was, A Most Curious Vintage Party.

We used some stunning vintage trunks courtesy of the lovely Jane Dawson Vintage and some old curiosities from Penny Ling including a 1920s type writer, Bakelite telephone and 50s radio.

We had a large projector playing the classic Holiday Inn, bejewelled fruit table displays, custom made vintage theatre light box, luxurious red velvet seating area, handmade macaroons,  Vodka Gimlets, Victorian taxidermy, cigarette girls, peacock feathers, gilt framed Micheal Sowa prints as seen in Amelie…. the list goes on. Have a look at a few pics for yourself.

There was a great crowd, and I was particularly delighted to meet the lovely and inspiring Vivien of Holloway.  She really is a good looking woman. And a powerhouse to boot!

The evening was completely wonderful, and much fun and merriment was had by all!

Halooooo!

Hope your all well, a curious post from me today, and also a hope of some suggestions from you aspiring interior designers out there.

I have been commisioned to style an event in London in December, it’s all very hush hush and a bit of a secret but the request from the client is… Vintage but no pastel colours and not too girly!

Now as I am sure you are all aware, I am a fan of the more delicate colour palette and the major trend in vintage and shabby chic design is for pretty pastels and muted tones. So what’s a girl to do?

Here is my idea that I have put forward to the client.

Vintage/ Victorian / Opium Den inspired by Dita Von Teese and her recent performance at the 2010 Erotica show at Olympia in London.

Now, not one to do things by halves, I have decided to do a 180 turn on the usual vintage colour pallette and am going for blood reds, emerald greens, gold and silver, black, bronze and brown.

I want to combine vintage pieces into a Victorian Opium Den design. Without being too gimicky.

I want to add some quirky winter fruit center pieces on a few 3 foot tables covered in burgandy linen.  Like those seen on the Most Curious Party site.

I want to create a dark, warm interior, lit dimly by scattered candles and elegant lamps. Like  Bar 228 at Le Meurice in Paris…

And the grown up Vintage glamour of Madam Jo Jo’s and the Rivoli Ballrooms

I have quite a collection of gold gilt frames, and am hiring several pieces of taxidermy along with other curios including religious icons, oriental rugs, battered vintage suitcases… all of which I will be using in the styling of the event.

I have been assured that the gin and Champagne will be flowing too, so all in all I am really looking forward to this event and of course will keep you updated and take plenty of pictures to show you!

All the best for now, Sadie xx

Halooo to all you lovely people on this chilly Sunday!

Apologies, again, for not posting sooner, but it seems I am in high demand these days and have just been invited to style the Christmas party for my wonderful friends at Beauty Call. More info on that soon,

But for now, here are some lovely pics from the ever wonderful BVintage Bazaar that took place on Sunday just gone.

If you want to find out about the next event please email the vintage expert Berni Bales on her Facebook page.

Just before I show you the pics, was anyone else confused on Tuesday night while watching Kirstie’s Homemade Home when she kept saying “Ardinglie Antiques Fair”? Was it her just being a little too posh or is it me? I have always thought it was “Ardingley” as in “Ar-ding-lee”? Hmmm opinions purlease.

What a lovely time we had! Hope you like the pictures and wrap up warm girls it’s COLD out there!

Hello dears!

I hate to start another post with an apology but, I feel the need to say sorry for the delay in posting y’all for so long again.

The truth is, I have been working on a secret project that is now, after months of planning and tinkering on my part, finally almost ready to unleash upon you all.

I decided, quite sometime ago that I wanted to take my vintage passion from hobbie, to profession and so, here it is. I have decided to re-brand and launch my own on-line boutique.

Now, this may seem like an easy task, but believe me. It’s not.

Aside from all the bits you would expect like, changing business stationary and making a new facebook group I have also been designing and building an e-commerce website from scratch (this involved actually learning how to do that all on my tod!)

After years of headaches and heartaches selling on various well known websites like ebay and such, I decided to empower myself by having my own on-line store, in part because of the outrageous fees involved but also because, as a seller, these organisations rarely, if ever support their sellers leaving us open to fraud, dishonesty and the inevitable “the item never showed up so I want a full refund” when you know full well your 1950s Atomic Age coat hanger is sitting in their bloody living room!!

On top of that, I have also decided to branch out and include apparel into my catalogue. My first love will always be home-wear, but the vintage gods keep putting wonderful pieces before me to pass onto you and I can’t refuse them now can I!  My life is all about vintage, from the tea I drink to the clothes I wear to the hair styles I try to master, so I will from now on be all encompassing in my boutique too.

On top of this I will be organising some amazing vintage events, but that really is a secret project at the moment so shhhhhhhh……..

This does however leave me with a question for you all, and I hope you will find the time to leave a comment and let me know what you think…

Do I start bloggin under a new name and add a link from this blog to the new one or do I carry on like Tara Fey did and just change the header????

I will of course keep you posted about my official launch date, so keep watching!!!

All my Love, Sadie xx

Hi darlings!

Another week has flown by and I have been hard pressed for time what with being a single mother and the business of trying to run a vintage boutique and everything else.  These lilac stocks are filling my house with a very delicate sweet fragrance though and that seems to keep me calm.

It’s nice to just slow down for a minute, read through all of your lovely blogs and put finger to keyboard for my own whilst enjoying a cup of very sweet, milky Earl Grey…

I have found SO many treasures this week that I have only just got through photographing, cleaning and cataloguing them all, most I found at The Taplow Giant (and they are serious when they say giant!) Car boot in Berkshire.  Taplow is a strange mix of sellers really, and you do have to walk a bit, but there are treasures to be found.

Now just look at her! Isn’t she beautiful?  She is a print that has been hand painted onto to give the illusion from a distance that she is a real oil on canvas, and is probably a 70′s repro.  I say this because the frame was covered in a bizarre brown felt, which, after many hours of picking and cleaning off with a knife and some nail varnish remover revealed quite a pretty wooden  frame underneath that I painted gold. Nice huh? She is not going anywhere though my friends and has moved in with ET and I and enjoys watching Cash in The Attic with us!

I love this trio of French Rose prints, many times I have heard dealers say a pair is better than one, so what about a TRIO! They are so pretty, with just the right amount of fading and the frames all match too. I was assured by the seller that they were in their mothers house since he was a child and he was in his 50s, and I would say that sounds about right from the look of them.

And these little milky coloured plaster of Paris dipped in resin religious Icons are heavenly! I bought them off my favourite dealer who brings me trinkets from France every now and again. Wait till I show you what else I got of him in my next post……

Don’t you just love 50s retro?

Too many other things to show you today, but of course you can buy most of these items at the Flea Boutique (not meaning to be such a cyper pimp!)

I’m heading out again on Sunday to THREE different markets, so more treasure next week to show you.

The reason for all this frantic purchasing is that I am about to embark on my first Vintage Fair as a stall holder which I am very excited about, and if you have any tips or advice to give me for that I would be SOOOOO grateful!

See you soon,

Sadie xxx

Hi guys! It feels like about a MONTH since I last posted.  I have been crazy busy ! A weeks holiday in Wales, styling a show flat for a developer, organising E.T’s 1st birthday party and of course, hunting for new stock for the shop.

Here are a few pics to get you excited, some pics I took of the family in Wales and one of E.T looking gourgeous on the beach!

My sister and my niece, I think they look like they are taking a stroll through heaven.

I’m just putting the finishing touches to a little project I have been waiting to Launch on you! Very excited! Check back in a few days and all will be revealed!

Big sunny hugs from Sadie xx
